1. Hand-crafted furniture is the biggest growing trend for 2009 so be on the look out for hand crafted furniture pieces, with the hottest items featuring intricate detailing and scroll work, hand woven finishes and rustic textures.
2. The furniture and accessories market will be greatly influenced and inspired by ethnic trends. It is now possible to go shopping in your local high street store and bring home fine, handcrafted items from Asia, Vietnam, Indonesia or Africa. 3. Wallpaper offers the perfect way to create a distinctive look. Decorative and floral wallpaper is a key trend for 2009. The more decorative they are, the simpler you can be in your approach to other elements such as upholstery and curtains.
4. Eco-friendly products will continue to be in demand by today’s energy-conscious and environmentally aware consumers. Introduce organic soft cotton bedding, throws and reclaimed wood furniture into your interior.
5. The ‘sanctuary home’ is still a firm favourite this year. To get the look, decorate your home in soothing, earth-inspired colours to create a serene, secure and happy environment, where you can escape from the crazy economic upheaval.
6. Florals are even bigger and bolder this year. Introduce them into your home through wallpaper, cushions, bedding, throws and rugs.
7. Yellow is a must have colour for 2009. Introduce some sunshine and happiness with a collection of yellow vases, cushions, throws, bed linen or even a fresh vase of daffodils or bowl of lemons. Anything yellow will do!
8. Introduce sequins, metallic finishes, shiny threads, beading and anything reflective and shimmery. The Eastern influence of interiors uses these touches with rich, decadent colours that allow all of this shine to make sense. Accent lighting, fabric throws and cushions work well with this look.
9. Wall murals and wall art are in high demand. They are cost-effective ways of completely transforming the look of a room.
10. Complement your furniture with ccontemporary home accessories made from indigenous materials such as textiles, hard woods, reed and bamboo.
11. Heavy distressed wood fused with contemporary designs is a trend that continues to grow in 2009. Along with textured linens, and soft burnished leather.
12. Mosaics are hugely popular and can be found on everything from vases, mirrors and furniture. They will add sparkle and glamour to any room in your home.
13. Tartan has also made a huge comeback in interiors and your home can be transformed with this versatile and timeless pattern. The new latest colours give tartan a modern edge.
14. Upholstered beds are here to stay in 2009 and are available in a range of fabrics and leathers. High indulgent headboards are a popular choice.
15. Metallics are hot this year and furniture takes on a new finish with wood being fused with metal frames.
16. Grey is the stylish neutral to showcase your furniture - a cool complement to the hot metallics for the year.
17. Bright sofas are all the rage in the living room. If you don’t want to change your existing sofa why not introduce colour through bright scatter cushions, a floor rug, throw or even a decorative light.
