Chinese Bedroom Furniture

Chinese Bedroom Furniture

Chinese contemporary furniture is eye catching and beautiful and is a wonderful focal point in any home. Throughout the ages Chinese furniture has demonstrated artistic form and practicality and there are a number of different styles to choose from. Its simplicity and elegance has international appeal and not only looks outstanding in traditional homes, but can be teamed with modern western furniture to create a stunning addition to rooms in modern houses or apartments.

Chinese lacquered furniture has been developed over centuries and has continued in popularity and demand. The lacquer comes from the sap of the varnish tree. Multi-layers of lacquer are painstakingly applied on top of the base coat. The high quality and durability of the finish means that it can provide lasting enjoyment as it very resistant to damage by water, acid and alkali.

Our Chinese bedroom furniture selection includes black lacquered beds, wardrobes, bedside tables and chests of drawers. The high quality durable finish follows the traditional hand painted process of several layers of natural lacquer, which is then lacquered seven times.

Puji has a range of stunning bedroom furniture such as the Shanxi bed, which also has a chest of drawers, wardrobe and two bedside tables to complete the look. The elegant Oriental Shanxi bedside table is characterised by a red interior finish and a cupboard door with an almost mirror shine.

For an authentic Chinese look, select a few eye catching statement pieces for maximum effect. Keep the rest of your furniture low key, in plain black or dark wood and clutter to a minimum so your chosen pieces of Chinese furniture stand out. Having a light and simple room with a few exotic pieces helps promote the Asian style of calmness, order and serenity.

To stand out against the black shiny finish, accessorise with richly coloured cushions in luxurious fabrics such as our Ruffles cushions in deep red or oriental green, which have a wonderful silky feel.

Screens are often used in Chinese bedroom furniture design and add beauty as well as liven up a room. They are not only elegant and decorative but they are also functional and serve the purpose of partitioning areas for privacy.

They are also a good way of adding Chinese art to a room and can be an attractive focal point. Screens used to be made of light materials with thin fabric or paper elaborately decorated with artwork, but today a wide range of materials are used including carved wood or bamboo.

Chinese Design and Feng Shui

The art of Feng Shui (pronounced fung-shway) has been used by the Chinese for centuries. Today it is not only used by the Chinese, but is also popular in the West with many professional consultants available to help advise an individual on how to reorganise space within their home and surroundings to help enhance their personal life and create a harmonious environment. Feng Shui looks at colour, furnishings and objects to help improve the flow of energy and benefit the individual in terms of love, health and prosperity.
